What Do You Love About Fall? A List of My Top Ten Favorite Things About Fall
Fall is my absolute favorite season! The weather is perfect, the vibe is “comfy, cozy,” and there is a natural gravitation for us to connect and be gathered at this time of year.
My Top 10 Favorite Things About Fall
1. Chilly Mornings
Let’s talk about the weather. Sweater weather. The change of weather signifies to our bodies that change is upon us and can really inspire us to re-evaluate where we are in life and what is important to us.
Stepping outside and having the brisk, cool air fill my lungs in the morning is one of my favorite parts about fall. Acting as a small spark of energy; it is invigorating and feels like it fills me up with LIFE.
2. A Naturally Slower Pace to Life
We can all feel the natural energy shift to slow down, take in the world around us, be mindful of what we have and take count of our blessings. Slowing down is a natural process that is engrained in us at this time of year.
The energy shift can help you slow down and embrace the world around you as it starts to transition into natures’ rest period. Take advantage of this and get the rest you so desperately need.
3. Soft Blankets
I don’t think I’ve ever met a woman who doesn’t enjoy a soft, snuggly, warm blanket. There’s just something about them that brings you a sense of comfort, peace, and safety. Having a blanket wrapped around you almost gives you permission to be soft yourself.
The world around us can harden us with the pressure, comparison, problems, and everything else. Melt into that soft blanket girl, you deserve it. Let go of the tension you’re holding onto and relax.
4. Coffee and Tea
I enjoy coffee year-round, but in the fall it’s a different viiiibe. Sitting out in the cool morning air, both hands cupping a hot cup of coffee, wrapped up in an oversized comfy sweater or a soft blanket. Watching the steam pour off the top of the mug.
I can say almost the same for tea, especially during fall. Fall flavors of tea are top-notch and can bring some spice into your day.
5. Embracing Nature
Nature positively impacts our mental health and when the weather is literal perfection; I want to be outside all the time. Taking walks during the fall is one of the most pure and simple things I think you can do, and it helps you return to the present moment.
Embracing nature around you as you walk in the fall can help you become more mindful as well.
Here are some ways to try to embrace mindfulness in your walk:
- Can you feel the cool air filling your lungs as you walk? Maybe pause during your walk and take a slow, deep inhale to the count of four and feel the temperature resonate deep in your chest.
- Do you hear the crunching sound of the leaves beneath your feet? Or perhaps you’re on a path without leaves; is the earth beneath your feet soft as you walk?
- Can you hear the rustling of the leaves as the wind breezes past you through the trees? Try to stop for a moment and notice the leaves’ movement in correlation to the sounds you’re hearing.
- Can you smell the freshness in the air or the smell of wet leaves? Or is there by chance a bonfire or campfire near that you can smell?
- Do you notice the changing colors of the leaves around you? Note what colors you see. You can even collect the different colors while outside.
6. Cozy Environment
The cozy environment we create for ourselves in fall is the best. Soft lighting, candles burning, a fire in the fireplace, over-sized sweaters, fuzzy socks, soft blankets. Girl, it’s all so good.
7. The Colorful Decorations
The colors of fall are comforting and relaxing. Take note of the orange, burgundy, beige, yellow, red, and navy blues around you. Not only are the colors comforting, but so are the decorations. I think it’s natural to feel more comforted or at ease in fall due to decorating with NATURE. At this time of year, we decorate with the deep hues of fall leaves, gourds, corn, pumpkins, and more.
8. Fall Apparel
I’m not big into “fashion” per se (earlier in my life, I absolutely was), but I am interested in fall apparel. I often opt for leggings, a comfy sweater, and a pair of comfy boots. If you want to add in a scarf for a little pa-zazz, sure thing.
Then add in the textures like a thick flannel or fleece sweater and it whispers comfort. I dislike being cold, but I deeply enjoy being bundled up. As snug as a bug in a rug.
9. Fall Baking
Can you smell it?
I occasionally dabble in a bit of baking normally, but I feel as if I bake more frequently in the fall. I bake cookies, banana bread, and muffins more than anything else throughout the year.
However, in fall, I may bake something more seasonal. A few fall sweets I’ve baked have included cinnamon bars, maple scones, apple crisp, cranberry cheesecake, pumpkin cookies, orange cranberry bread, and more. Don’t they sound so delicious?
I also find myself baking more during fall due to the feeling of giving to others at this time of year. It’s a great time of year to bake for others; neighbors, friends, or family.
10. Gatherings of Family and Friends
Last on my list, but certainly not least in importance is the gathering of friends and family. Connection is one of my personal core values and gathering with family and friends helps me feel loved and fulfilled.
Not only do we gather in homes for the holidays, but we also gather around bonfires and fireplaces. We spend more quality time together it seems, talking about life and bonding. Maybe it’s due to us not being as rushed.
I’ve also made it an intention to visit places such as apple orchards or pumpkin patches during the fall. Maybe you can too if you don’t already. 😊
Conclusion
My top ten favorite things about fall are surely going to vary from yours. Fall is a wonderful time of year for reflection and embracing the shifting of seasons.
