5 Ways to Celebrate the First Day of Fall

Celebrating the first day of fall can be really special or fun if you set the intention to make it so! 😊🍂

The first day of fall this year is Sunday, September 22nd. Can you set the intention to focus your energy towards enjoying it? Be intentional with your time and schedule an activity into your day that will bring you joy. Put yourself first.

Here are 5 ways you can celebrate the first day of fall.

1. Romanticize Your Morning

This is a trend lately, right?

I think it’s a trend that should stay for the long haul and become our new normal. We are so often hustling and bustling from one activity to the next that we often forget to enjoy the small things in life. *The small things in life are often the most important.*

There are so many ways you can romanticize your morning, but I’ll list a few ideas out below:

Romanticize waking up.

Set an extended amount of time to roll out of bed in the morning. When you wake up, can you make it extremely dramatic? Take a deep inhale in, and audibly let the breath go.

Stretch your body out as long as you can in your bed. Use energy to pull your toes and fingers as far away from one another as possible. When is the last time you’ve done this? It feels SO GOOD!

Open your blinds or curtains and feel the sun on your face (if you can sleep in this long). Put on your fuzzy slippers or robe and feel the softness against your feet or body. Make it special.

Romanticize your coffee or tea.

My drink of choice in the morning, especially a chilly fall morning, would be coffee. However, I do love some of the fall tea flavors that are available as well.

Add some background music to your morning while you get your coffee or tea ready. I use Spotify and you can find a million different playlists that could boost your morning. Autumn sounds, slow jazz, coffee house music; whatever floats your boat.

I usually drink my coffee with a simple tsp of stevia, however, some mornings it is nice to spice it up a little. You can add some whipped cream on top and/or sprinkle on some cinnamon or pumpkin spice. You can even add a cinnamon stick for aesthetics if you wanted to get extra fancy.

Romanticize your thoughts and plans.

Sit on the porch and think about how you can make the day ahead soft or romantic. Dedicate a little extra time towards planning something out for yourself.

Can you take a mindful walk this morning with someone you love?

Can you share a cup of coffee and pastry on your porch with someone you love?

What about slow dancing with your children when wake up today?

Romanticize getting ready.

When you pick your outfit for the day, can you prioritize comfort, but a cute comfort? Aim to make yourself look and feel good.

If that means putting on makeup, put on makeup.

If that means putting on a face mask, put on a face mask.

If that means taking the time to actually do your hair today, do you hair.

Same idea with your outfit of course. Wear what YOU want today. Without the external pressures around you influencing your decision.

Set the intention to care for yourself and approach your day with softness. Scheduling this time to be soft and intentionally romanticizing your day can be refreshing. It can help bring back a spark of joy to your life when you’ve been overwhelmed for a long time.

2. Practice Gratitude

Practicing gratitude may seem like a silly way to celebrate the beginning of fall if you aren’t in the habit of doing so, but I challenge you to try this. List three things on the first day of fall that you’re grateful for.

Practicing gratitude truly brings you into the present moment and provides clarity on what you have in your life already that is worth celebrating and honoring.

3. Take a Nature Walk

To me, there probably isn’t a better way to enjoy the fall season. I absolutely love being in nature and enjoying the weather. Add in a little movement to that by walking and it becomes even more enjoyable.

I’ve always enjoyed this simple interest. When people ask me what I do for fun, I don’t usually have much to say. It truly is the simple things in life that bring me the most joy. Now that I have my daughter to walk with me, it is ten times better than before. She loves exploring, adventuring, and going on walks so it’s time well spent for us.

4. Decorate Your Home

If you haven’t decorated your home for fall already, today is a great day to start! I pulled out my fall decorations at the beginning of September. The weather was shifting to cooler temperatures, and I needed warmer clothing for our family. I store my fall decorations and fall/winter clothing together in the basement.

Decorating your home is a great way to celebrate the beginning of fall. It can be small and subtle if that suits your more than going all in for decorations. You can add in the beautiful fall colors to your home with simple touches like a fall candle or a fall throw blanket.

If you decorate your house together as a family, it can bring an additional layer of warmth to the start of the season. Maybe buy some apple cider and warm it up on the stove for everyone to enjoy while decorating.

5. Cook Traditional Fall Foods

Cooking traditional fall foods is a fun and tasty way to celebrate the fall season starting. If you know me, you know I love food. Fall foods are comforting, filling, hearty, and a true indicator that the fall season has arrived.

Chili is the first thought that comes to my mind, but there are so many other options if that doesn’t sound appetizing to you. When I think fall, I think: brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, apples, cranberries, butternut squash, and pumpkin. Obviously if you celebrate Thanksgiving you may also be thinking: mashed potatoes, green beans, and turkey. If you prefer sweets: add a touch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or maple syrup to a dish.

Conclusion

No one is going to make your life the way you want it to be, except you. You have the power here to change your life and set the direction you want to be heading. Celebrating the first day of fall can be really pleasant if you set the intention for how you want it to unravel. Romanticizing your morning, practicing gratitude, taking a nature walk, decorating your home, or cooking traditional fall foods are all easy and simple ways to celebrate falls arrival. Let me know if you plan to celebrate the first day of fall and if you do, what’s your plan?
